While JAY-Z’s 4:44 iss a clear shot at reclaiming a throne that it seems was never abdicated in the first place, the project is introspective work for which the Hip-Hop community has been feening.

It was a great refresher for the vet and a reminder for his foes.

Throughout the album, Hov also takes the opportunity to direct his energy to revisionist Hip-Hop fans, challenging the animosity towards the newer wave of young artists, specifically on the “Family Feud” cut.

“And old n-ggas, y’all stop actin’ brand new/Like 2Pac ain’t have a nose ring too, huh,” rapped Jay.

Young Thug, in particular, recognized the line as a nod towards his generation of peers, and posted a screenshot of the lyrics on a now virtually barren Instagram page.

“Thanks JAY…” was his very simple caption.

According to the Genius annotation of the line, the lyric touches on the debate on “femininity in the scene,” a relevant reference to the likes of Thug, whose legitimacy is often questioned due to his aesthetic.

Most notably, the topic struck following his JEFFERY cover in which he sported a blue dress.
