The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) announced that the single went platinum on October 30. “Mo Bamba” has been Sheck’s biggest song to date, and it currently sits at the number ten spot on Billboard‘s Hot 100. Wes named the song after Bamba because the two were childhood friends growing up in New York. Speaking with TMZ, Wes revealed that Bamba asked him for a shout out on a song, and instead he dedicated an entire track so the athlete. He claims that he was being courted by labels at the same time Bamba was being courted by NBA teams, drawing a comparison to their transition to the big league. Wes is signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music and Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack Records, which are two of the biggest cosigns a young artist can get in the game.
