Lil Wayne’s Lawyer Allegedly Confirms Settlement In Cash Money Legal Dispute
It’s been a bumpy ride for Lil Wayne but it looks like he’s finally reached a settlement in his long battle with Cash Money. Earlier today, reports surfaced that the rapper finally has been freed from his contract with Cash Money records and Tha Carter V will see the light of day this year. His lawyer has confirmed the settlement and shared some details pertaining to Wayne’s win.
Lil Wayne’s lawyer, Ron Sweeney, confirmed Wayne officially reached a settlement with Cash Money Records in a statement to Billboard. While he declined to go into details, he did reveal his “client is happy” with the outcome. In addition, Wayne now owns the rights to his music, assets and his likeness.
“Per our settlement agreement, the matter has been amicably resolved to the satisfaction of all parties,” he said. “In terms of the particulars, we’re prohibited legally from saying anything further. I can say that my client is happy. He is his own man, a man that owns his assets, his music and himself. At some point, Wayne will let his fans know what’s going to happen next.”
Initial reports said Wayne received around $10M in the settlement. However, Karen Civil shut that down on Twitter earlier today. Either way, Wayne is finally out of his deal with Cash Money and hopefully, we’ll receive a new album from him before the end of the year.
