August Alsina was forced to lip sync parts of “Do You Mind” at last night’s AMAs, as his mic was apparently cut off for the whole performance.

Last night presented a big moment for August Alsina, as he was invited to perform alongside DJ Khaled, Future, Rick Ross, and Nicki Minaj at the 2016 American Music Awards. The five artists executed a rendition “Do You Mind,” minus Chris Brown, who was also part of the collaborative single taken from Khaled’s Major Key album. Though the performance seemed to go well, apparently some fans had called out Alsina for lip syncing his parts of the song. The 24-year-old New Orleans singer has responded today by admitting that their concerns are understandable, though he has eschewed the blame on the AMA’s tech staff, who apparently forgot to turn his microphone on.

Alsina posted a snapshot from the “Do You Mind” performance last night in which he seems to signal that there’s no sound coming from his mic. “When yo mic ain’t on so you just do the #MannequinChallenge in front of 11 million viewers at the #LipSyncParty aka the AMAs,” he wrote.

He further expressed his frustrations in his next Instagram post, writing, “Rehearsed all week only to have AMAs not have my mic on for live TV feed … pretty fuckin WACK.” “I feel played just like you do,” he told his fans, before going on to remark that he was thankful for the opportunity regardless. “‘Do You Mind’ is the number 1 record in the country, so nonetheless, I am blessed.”

“Do You Mind” currently sits at No. 39 on the Billboard Hot 100, though perhaps Alsina is referring to a different chart.
